Wiggins Remains No. 1 On Most NBA Boards

Mar 26, 2014 1:47 PM

Andrew Wiggins struggled in his final collegiate game as Kansas was eliminated by Stanford in the Round of 32, but the game won't hurt his draft stock.

"Wiggins is going to have to continue to improve his skill set," writes Chad Ford. "But I haven't heard anyone in the NBA suggest that this one game will affect his draft stock at all. He's the No. 1 guy on our board and he's the No. 1 guy on most NBA boards right now. That can still change as we get into workouts and physicals, but I'd be surprised if it did."

Joel Embiid will consult the Kansas coaching staff and also his mentor, fellow Cameroon native and NBA player Luc Mbah a Moute, before making a final decision concerning his NBA future.

Wiggins Accepts Blame For Kansas Loss

Mar 23, 2014 8:56 PM

Kansas was eliminated from the NCAA Tournament with a 60-57 loss to Stanford.

“It hurts. I feel I let my team down, my coaches, my fans, Kansas fans, everybody,” said Wigigns ater what will almost certainly be his last game of his collegiate career.

Wiggins had four points, four turnovers, one assists, four rebounds and two blocks in 34 minutes.

“I wasn’t there for my team. If I would have been there, we would have won for sure. If I would have played better, scored more, my team wins. I blame myself for this loss,” he added.

Some GMs, Scouts Moving Back To Wiggins Even Before Embiid Injury

Mar 12, 2014 1:15 PM

Andrew Wiggins had 41 points on Saturday and has begun to reestablish himself as a popular pick to go first overall in the 2014 NBA Draft.

With Joel Embiid's back injury, the odds of Wiggins going first also increase even though he was getting back in the conversation in his own right.

"Even before the injury to Embiid, some scouts and GMs were moving back onto the Wiggins bandwagon," writes Chad Ford. "There is just sooooo much potential there and he's showing signs of understanding it. If he takes over for Kansas the next few weeks, he may be the No. 1 pick even if Embiid gets 100 percent healthy."

Joel Embiid Won't Need Surgery, Likely Out Until At Least Sweet 16

Mar 10, 2014 10:47 PM

Joel Embiid is out indefinitely after being seen in Los Angeles by a spinal specialist, but he will not require surgery.

The doctor confirmed the diagnosis of a stress fracture.

Embiid will miss the Big 12 Tournament and likely the first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament. Bill Self is hopeful that Embiid could return for the later rounds.

Embiid had become the player most general managers would select with the first overall pick in the 2014 NBA Draft, ahead of Andrew Wiggins and Jabari Parker.

"Now it's a three-man race again -- and Embiid might be No. 3 depending on how his back checks out by doctors," said one GM to Jeff Goodman of ESPN.

Joel Embiid To Visit Back Specialist In California

Mar 10, 2014 1:58 AM

Joel Embiid will fly to California on Monday morning to see a back specialist.

Embiid has been out since last week's loss to Oklahoma State.

‘We wanted to get a second opinion and wanted to send him to the very best authority,” Self said following the game according to Gary Bedore of KUSports.com.

“Hopefully we get real positive news. Hopefully he can be on the practice floor very very soon. We will not put him out there just because he feels better but because the doctors says it’s time to get back out there. Hopefully it will be real soon, if not we’ll sit him a little longer. We still don’t think it will affect (his participation in) the NCAA tournament in any way.”

Joel Embiid To Miss Final Two Regular Season Games

Mar 3, 2014 7:19 PM

Joel Embiid will miss the final two regular season games for Kansas with a lower back strain.

Embiid could also miss part or all of the Big 12 conference tournament.

"There is no reason why he should not be feeling much better by the NCAA tournament," Bill Self said. "The doctors feel that amount of time off should do him wonders for how he is feeling."

Embiid miss the Jayhawks' game against TCU on Feb. 15 with the same back injury, but came back to average 14 points and 10.3 rebounds the past four games.
